The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II was the international celebration in 2022 marking the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952.
The Masham Snooker Club joined the celebrations by running a snooker knockout competition and was given a gift from the Masham Parish Council which allowed us to purchase a cup to award the winner.
Later that same year the queen sadly passed away and after the funeral, the committee decided that the Platinum Cup could be played as a remembrance of the Queen to mark her 70 years on the throne. Following this decision the committee ran the first event as a memorial and it was very well attended. The club intends to continue to run the event yearly and the winners name is added on our honours board.
The Inaugural event celebrated the Queens Platinum Anniversary.
The event was incredibly well attended making for a very busy session with all three tables in play and ultimately set up a great final. A very tight match followed with little difference between the two players.
After a long game with some great safety play and barely any difference in points, it came down to the final colours and after a miss from his opponent, Andy sealed the win by taking the blue, pink and black. A worthy victor to celebrate a great evenings play.
The same year we re-played the event again as a remembrance of the Queens 70 year reign, also making it a yearly event.
Once again the club found itself well attended and after several busy sessions, the finalists were selected.
A good game was played with both players giving a great game of snooker to those watching.
Dave sealed his win with a good victory and winning margin making him the worthwhile victor.
The second year of the Queens Platinum Cup was held in November 2023 and was won by Rob.
A great evening was had by all, as we marked the memory of our late Queen and her Platinum anniversary.
A good attendance led to several long sessions with many players playing great snooker to try and get through. In the end the final was a good match and hard fought with only a few points making a difference between them.
A final break sealed the win and made Rob the worthwhile victor of the event and completed a memorable evenings play.
The third year of the Queens Platinum Cup was held in November 2024 and was won by Neil.
Once again we achieved a good attendance and this gave us a good range of players to match against each other. Neil was in great form that night and swept his opponents away and it was great to see him play again in a club event after all these years.
The final was all about Neil as he dominated the evenings play and his form continued as he claimed the title with an imperious display of snooker. Well done to Neil and he earns his place on the honours board.
